The Language of my Reality

While the Northfield School Board voted 5-2 on May 31, 2006 to end its sponsorship of The Village School of Northfield, we know that the energy of such a unique place will continue to live. For nine years, The Village School has been a place of community. Within that community, students, staff, parents, and the community at large benefited from the practices of free democratic education, consensus management, and restorative justice as guiding principles. Students were free to decide the course of their day, and the course of their own education. Within that community, students and teachers alike came to know the unique passions, talents, and gifts of one another.

It is often said in many Tibetan stories, that the reality of our future is resting somewhere just above all of us, yet it is always accessible in the realm of the present. The Village School and its vision are a part of the weaving of the history of Northfield as a place of peace and social justice. This energy is present still.
